**Ewener**, William A., London, Ont.; University of Western Ontario, 1948; MCFP; Military Cross; former staff, Victoria, St. Joseph's, St. Mary's and Parkwood hospitals. Died Aug. 7, 2001, aged 96; survived by his wife, Lilian, and 3 children. Colleague Howie Cameron stated: “Bill dropped out of medicine in 1940 and enlisted as a combat engineer. He was severely wounded at Dieppe, and on the boat back heard the triage officer say: ‘Don’t bother with him, he's dead.' Bill then pinched himself in the thigh to see if he was still alive, and managed to call the medics back. After the war, he took great enjoyment in delivering babies.”

Died July 12, 2001, aged 95, due to complications following surgery for a broken hip; survived by 2 sons.

**Irvine**, John W., Nanoose Bay, BC; University of Alberta, 1951; general surgery; FRCSC; former chief of surgery, St. Joseph's Hospital; senior member, CMA. Died July 8, 2001, aged 79; survived by his wife.

**Karnauchow**, Paul N., North Bay, Ont.; University of Krassnodar (Russia), 1941; FRCPC; former staff, chief of pathology and director of laboratory medicine, North Bay Civic and St. Joseph's hospitals; associate staff, North Bay Psychiatric Hospital. Died Aug. 13, 2001, aged 81; survived by his wife, Helen, and 2 sons.

**Kredentser**, Bernard, Halfmoon Bay, BC; University of Manitoba, 1951; practised obstetrics/gynecology in Edmonton for 32 years. Died June 26, 2001, aged 79; survived by 5 children and their mother, Pearl.

**McKenzie**, Herbert F., Medicine Hat, Alta.; University of Manitoba, 1940; therapeutic radiology; MCFP, FRCPC; RCAMC, WW II; former staff, Medicine Hat General Hospital; director and staff, Medical Arts Clinic, Medicine Hat; first recipient, Dr. Wilf Campbell Medical Service Award. Died July 18, 2001, aged 85; survived by his wife, Enid, and children Dr. Jack and Patricia.

**Plecash**, Myles, Summerland, BC; McGill University, 1945; urology; FRCSC. Died July 17, 2001, aged 83; survived by his wife, Carolyn, and 3 children. His obituary stated: “He made us laugh at life's silliest adventures and its most solemn moments.”

**Russell**, Garfield B., Mount Gretna, Pa.; Memorial University, 1975; anesthesia. Died July 1, 2001, aged 48.

**Thomson**, Peter G., Toronto; University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne (England), 1945; psychiatry; CRCPC; former associate staff, Mount Sinai Hospital; assistant professor, University of Toronto. Died July 2, 2001, aged 80.

**Vernon**, Ross T., Windsor, Ont.; University of Toronto, 1949; radiology; DMR, DABR; former staff, Hotel-Dieu Hospital. Died Aug. 30, 2001, aged 74. His daughter Elizabeth stated: “Aside from his passion for medicine, he was a member of the Wine and Food Society and the Art Gallery of Windsor.”

**Walker**, John B. (J.B.), London, Ont.; University of Western Ontario, 1953; internal medicine; FRCP(Lond.), FACP, FRCPC; former teaching staff, deputy chief of medicine, president of medical staff and member of Board of Directors, London Health Sciences Centre; vice-president and chief medical director, London Life Insurance Company; professor emeritus, University of Western Ontario. Died of multiple myeloma July 17, 2001, aged 71; survived by his wife, Margaret, and 3 daughters. His daughter Barbara reported: “My dad had many years of active service to both the OMA and CMA. He was particularly honoured to be approved for senior membership in the CMA in 1996.”
