**Aldous**, N. Ronald, Calgary; Queen's University, 1957; psychiatry; FRCPC; former staff, Jewish General and Holy Cross hospitals; assistant professor, McGill University; associate clinical professor, University of Calgary. Died July 8, 2001, aged 67.

**Beale**, Francis A., Scarborough, Ont.; Edinburgh University, 1946; radiation oncology; DMRT, FRCPC; former senior medical staff, Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) and Ontario Cancer Institute; RAMC, WW II. Died July 10, 2001, aged 78, after having Parkinson's disease for 20 years; survived by his second wife, Violet Marie, and 5 children. Colleague Peter Fitzpatrick commented: “Frank trained in radiotherapy, the forerunner of clinical oncology. In 1959 he was one of a band of young British radiation therapists recruited to staff the PMH, a new hospital specializing in the nonsurgical treatment of cancer. They were the right people in the right place at the right time. … Frank was a workhorse, making major contributions in the treatment of head and neck, gynecologic and breast cancers. His successful formula was careful patient assessment in multidisciplinary clinics, the development of clinical staging, standardized treatments, follow-up with meticulous record-keeping, and subsequent publication of results. These large retrospective studies on both common and rare cancers were the forerunner of today's prospective, randomized, controlled clinical trials.”

**Bercovici**, Jean T., Montreal; University Cluj-Napoca (Romania), 1945; otolaryngology; FRCSC; former associate staff, Centre Hôpital Côte-des-Neiges and Santa Cabrini Hospital. Died Aug. 4, 2001, aged 87; survived by his wife, Jenny, and 1 daughter.

**Bonnell**, Fred H., Parksville, BC; Queen's University, 1935; diagnostic and therapeutic radiology. Died July 26, 2001, aged 91.

**Cosgrave**, James J., Lindsay, Ont.; University of Toronto, 1962; former staff, Ross Memorial Hospital. Died July 22, 2001, aged 83.

**Goldenberg**, Solomon, Maple, Ont.; University of Toronto, 1948; general surgery; FACS, FICS, FRCSC; former staff, Hotel Dieu, Grace and Metropolitan hospitals; medical officer, Workers' Compensation Board. Died July 28, 2001, aged 75.

**Hisey**, Lloyd G., Kazabazua, Que.; University of Toronto, 1941; former senior psychiatrist, Royal Victoria Hospital; associate professor, McGill University. Died Aug 3, 2001, aged 84.

**Jespersen**, Reuben E., Edmonton; University of Alberta, 1935; general surgery; FACS, FRCSC; former president, medical staff, Misericordia and Royal Alexandra hospitals; clinical instructor, Department of Surgery, University of Alberta; senior member, CMA. Died July 12, 2001, aged 91; survived by his wife, Margaret, and 4 children.

**Lorimer**, Alan, Castlegar, BC; University of Aberdeen (Scotland), 1949; general pathology; MRCPath, FRCPC; former staff, Westman Laboratory, Brandon General Hospital; director, Trail Regional Hospital Laboratory. Died June 12, 2001, aged 75; survived by his wife, Helen, and 5 children.

**Lynes (Kaczanowski)**, Maria, Hamilton; University of Toronto, 1959; psychiatry; FRCPC; private practice, Hamilton. Died July 30, 2001, aged 65; survived by her husband, Frank, and 2 children.

**MacDonald**, Stewart A., Charlottetown; Dalhousie University, 1953; CCFP, FCFP; Distinguished Flying Cross, RCAF, WW II; former chief of staff, Prince Edward Island Hospital; city health officer, Charlottetown; staff, Riverside Hospital and the Provincial Sanatorium; senior pension medical examiner and senior treatment medical officer, Department of Veterans Affairs; registrar, Prince Edward Island Medical Council. Died July 7, 2001, aged 89; survived by his wife, Hesta, and 4 children. His obituary stated: “He didn't complete medical school until he was 41, he assisted in surgeries at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital well into his 80s, and he still had hospital privileges when he died.”

**Mulholland**, John B., Greenock, Scotland (formerly Leduc, Alta.); University of Glasgow (Scotland), 1961; former staff, Leduc Health Centre and Leduc General Hospital. Died of multiorgan failure July 2, 2001, aged 63; survived by his wife.

**Povah**, Arthur H., Kelowna, BC; University of Manitoba, 1945; former staff, Brandon General Hospital. Died Aug. 1, 2001, aged 81.

**Roe**, Bernadine V., Winnipeg; University of Manitoba, 1945; anesthesia; FRCPC; RCAMC, WW II; former staff, Winnipeg General, St. Boniface hospitals; head, Department of Anesthesia, Winnipeg Children's Hospital; lecturer, Children's Hospital School of Nursing. Died Aug. 3, 2001, aged 80; survived by 4 children. Her obituary stated: “In 1961, although entering into the peak of her career, she made a conscious decision to shed all that in favour of raising and nurturing her young family and caring for her aging parents. To this dedicated academic and skilled professional woman this decision would have been difficult, but to Bernadine it was a natural step she never regretted.”

**Rogers**, John W., Victoria; Queen's University, 1941; pediatrics. Died June 4, 2001, aged 85.
