Friend Glenn Betteridge commented: “Jamie had a profound and lasting effect on those around him, whether they worked side-by-side on a lab bench, studied together, debated health and human rights, or were a recipient of the compassionate and progressive care he provided. Shortly before his death he wrote: ‘I believe that on at least a small scale my life has made a difference in this world. A difference to friends, to family, to lovers, and to patients.’ ” **Marshall**, Russell H., Vancouver; University of Toronto, 1946; general surgery; FAAR, FRCSC; former chief, Department of Surgery, Children's Hospital; clinical instructor and research (liver transplant), University of British Columbia. Died Feb. 10, 2003, aged 80; survived by his wife, Aurette, and 2 sons. His wife stated: “He was a Junior B team doctor for 35 years and loved skating with the team at practices. Also enjoyed trout fishing and sailing.” **McRae**, Kenneth N., Winnipeg; University of Manitoba, 1955; pediatrics; FRCPC; former staff and director, Outpatient Department, Ambulatory Care and Child Development Clinic, Winnipeg Children's Hospital; professor, University of Manitoba; founder, Winnipeg Child Protection Clinic. Died Jan. 9, 2003, aged 75; survived by his wife, Jean, and 3 children. Colleague Charles Ferguson told the *Winnipeg Free Press*: “He was the first doctor to introduce the concept of child protection to Canada. His philosophy was that children are our greatest resource and needed care and tender consideration from their very start. He was a pioneer, without question.” **Schofield**, C.
