Computed tomography emerged as the best indirect, noninvasive technique and percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography as the best direct technique. A standard approach to investigating suspected extrahepatic biliary obstruction is suggested that takes into consideration the interventional radiologic techniques currently used to treat this condition.
