Lewin, Peter K., Toronto; University of London (England), 1959; pediatrics; former staff physician, Hospital for Sick Children; assistant professor in pediatrics, University of Toronto; appointed honorary physician to Queen Elizabeth during her 1974 visit to Toronto. Died June 7, 2005, aged 69; survived by his children, Michelle and Martin, his ex-wife Anneli and his special companion Suzie Laredo. “Peter lived enthusiastically with generosity of spirit. Those things he loved in life were ‘fantastic.’ He will be deeply missed by all.”

Peterkin, F. David, Winnipeg; University of Manitoba, 1952. Squadron navigator, Royal Air Force (1942); family doctor for 35 years in the US and Winnipeg. Died peacefully June 15, 2005, aged 85; survived by his children, Dr. Allan and Corinne. “He was a true renaissance man who knew literature and history and had a profound, joyful appreciation of classical music. His emphasis on the humanities informed his work with patients and brought pleasure to his family. It was David's wish that his body be left to the University of Manitoba Medical School.”

Scatliff, John, Victoria, BC; University of London (England), 1941; general practitioner in rural Manitoba; medical director, Misericordia Hospital; Director of Public Health, Province of Manitoba; invested by Pope Paul VI as a Knight of the Order of St. Sylvester (1966); professor of astronomy, University of Manitoba. Died after a brief illness surrounded by his family May 11, 2005, aged 90; survived by his wife of 63 years, Toni, his children Chris, John, Susan, Tim, Judy and Mike, 23 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. “Dad loved life to the fullest. He never did anything in half measures. He strove to excel in all of his many pursuits: astronomy (President of the Royal Astronomical Society of Manitoba), fly fishing (President of the Manitoba Fly Fishing Association), archery, music, water colour and oil painting, photography, slide shows, gardening, orchids, family history, and many more. Dad was a gentle soul, a very spiritual and religious man, a profound role model, and a true gentleman in all respects.”

Wohlfarth, Werner, Regina, Sask.; University of London (England), 1940; treated victims of bombing raids on southern England while working with the Emergency Medical Service during World War II; emigrated to Melville, Sask., where he was the municipal doctor, town coroner, alderman, member of the hospital board, an active member of the Order of the Elks, St. John Ambulance and the Rotary Club; former President, Saskatchewan College of Physicians and Surgeons. Died July 21, 2005, aged 89; survived by his children Susan, Ursula, Peter and Tony and 6 grandchildren. “After retirement in 1981, Werner remained active in gardening, financial planning and listening to jazz, swing and classical music.”
