Bourgeois, Steve David, Ottawa; University of Ottawa. Died July 11, 2007, aged 27. “Steve will be greatly missed by his fiancée, Pamelka Galler; his loving parents, Donald and Jocelyne; his dear brother, Kevin and fiancée Olivia, and by his many friends and relatives. Steve had just finished his third year of medical school. His dream of becoming a doctor did not quite come true, but he did help many people while working very long hours at several hospitals. He loved life and enjoyed rock climbing, snorkelling, scuba diving, biking, camping and travelling.”

Smith, Michael Foster; University of Toronto, 1971, anesthesia. Died Sept. 19, 2007, aged 61. “Dr. Smith lived a life of passionate engagement. He completed an anesthesiology residency at the University of British Columbia in 1978, and then completed additional training in pediatric anesthesiology at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. When he joined the anesthesiology staff at BC Children's Hospital, he became one of the few members of the group who performed the highly specialized practice of pediatric cardiac anesthesiology. Dr. Smith was an outstanding anesthesiologist with a calm and deliberate approach to caring for children. Surgeons knew they could focus on the operation because the child was in expert hands. A dear friend to many, Dr. Smith will be sorely missed by all who knew him. To his family, colleagues and friends, Michael's absence is like a hole in the sky. He is survived by Connie, his wife of 26 years; daughter, Meghan; son, Colin; brother, Peter and sister, Pam.”
