It would be helpful to see if the patients seen by oncology were more likely to have less comorbidity with a test of a statistical interaction.
Patients with pancreatic cancer in this series had a median survival of 3 months. Most patients with pancreatic cancer present with locally advanced and metastatic disease. Many are elderly and have comorbid disease, and therefore choose palliative care over active therapy. Of course, palliative therapy may include chemotherapy for some patients. Early oncology referral is always preferable, even if patients are leaning towards no therapy.
