It was with great interest that I read the recent @doctordoescancer article (1). I admire the courage and skill with which Dr. Said describes her recent cancer experience and were pleased to read that she is in remission at the time of writing.
I found Dr. Said’s “Patient Pearls” challenging to read as these are precisely the issues our organization, Wellspring Calgary, works to address. Wellspring Calgary (wellspringcalgary.ca) is a registered charity that provides professionally led programming for the emotional, social, and practical needs of those living with cancer in nearly every realm Dr. Said described in her article.
I applaud the work of physicians and other health care workers in providing outstanding medical care to cancer patients. I also know that comprehensive cancer care goes beyond the clinical experience(2,3). Dr. Said has beautifully articulated some of these essential needs in her cancer journey. I admire how she has processed and used her cancer experience to educate her colleagues.
I want to thank Dr. Said for an outstanding article. I wish her all the best.
